Indira Laisram is a journalist and the Features Editor (National) at The Indian Sun, one of Australia’s leading Indian diaspora media platforms. Born in Shillong, India, she holds a master’s degree in English literature from North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, and a master’s degree in social policy from the University of Melbourne, bringing both literary insight and a deep understanding of social issues to her writing.
She migrated to Australia in 2009 after a 17-year career in Indian mainstream media, working with organizations including the Press Trust of India, The Times of India, and Businessworld. In 2020, she was awarded the Judith Neilson Institute grant.
Her work focuses on the lives of Indians and South Asians in Australia, exploring migration, identity, belonging, and the many ways communities contribute to the nation’s multicultural story. Between Two Skies is her first book.
Her literary work has also appeared in Chicken Soup for the Indian Soul (2011), Chicken Soup for the Indian Bride’s Soul (2011), and the HarperCollins anthology But I Am One of You (2025).
